I actually don’t think it’s chicken/egg. The likelihood of lying/cheating/stealing is related to the assumption the reward is deserved. The justification for the behavior is more often entitlement than anything else. So if you come from a place of privilege, you assume that societal rules that might prevent you from doing everything you want are overruled by the rightness of doing whatever you want. It takes more balls to act so entitled from a place of less privilege/power (although of course that does happen).

The other motivators are the more pathological desire to transgress—which is not linked to power or privilege—and desperation, which is the province of the unpowerful and unprivileged, and far more rare than the powerful want anyone to believe.

So the notion of “not getting what one wants” becomes less and less acceptable the more one has to begin with?
